Road construction crews hit gas line in Ann Arbor; Geddes Road closed at Earhart
A broken gas line prompted the closure of Geddes Road between Earhart Road and US-23 this morning on Ann Arbor's north side.
Ann Arbor Fire Battalion Chief Robert Vogel said road construction workers hit a 3-inch gas line about 7:30 a.m. near the intersection of Geddes and Earhart roads. Firefighters were waiting for DTE Energy crews to arrive to shut off the gas and make repairs. He said he hoped it would be fixed by 8:30 or 9 a.m.
Concordia College, which is located in the area, is not in session so no evacuations have been necessary, he said, but he advised motorists to stay away from the area until the leak is repaired.
Roundabouts are being built at Geddes and Earhart roads and at the intersection of Geddes and US-23. Work on the Geddes and Earhart roundabout started last week, said David Dykman from the City of Ann Arbor's Project Management Unit.
The work, a Michigan Department of Transportation project, won't be completely finished until October. Work on the Geddes and Earhart ramp should wrap up in September, Dykman said.

IF DTE had MARKED the gas main, the crew would not of hit it. What's up dading? This is the first gas hit on the job all summer. Other locations or job sites do not have anything to do with this one. The temporary road will be used till the first part September, then it will be removed and grass will be planted, as it was. The new asphalt will only be 33' wide between the roundabouts.

@Basic Bob, the now paved road adjacent (not through) the soccer fields is being used as a temporary road while Geddes is being rebuilt. According the writeup several months ago, they are planning to remove it when all is complete.

AnnArbor.com staff, can you get us an update on the project status? The city of Ann Arbor has not updated their web page for over two months. Still wondering about that dirt road they built through the soccer field. Is it temporary or permanent?

Maybe this explains the west bound M14 backup I saw when going to work. It was backed up past Ford road around 8:30. The back up is often bad, but not usually that bad.
