Rockin' for the Hungry brings in 170 tons of food
Rockin' for the Hungry, a five-day food drive for Food Gatherers, brought in 170 tons of donations, organizers say.
That's short of the 200-ton food goal, although donations are still being collected. A final tally is expected to be complete in a few days, organizers said.
The annual event was sponsored by ann arbor's 107one and was held this year at a new location, moving to the Kroger grocery store on South Maple Road.
The radio station broadcast from outside several Kroger stores, where Food Gatherers volunteers also were stationed, and bins were filled with donations.
Food Gatherers is the area's largest food rescue and collection organization and distributes more than 4.6 million pounds of food annually.
