Contract renewed for Saline City Manager Todd Campbell

By Alana West

City Manager Todd Campbell will be on the job for at least another year now that his contract has been renewed by the Saline City Council.

Campbell’s salary for the next year will be $104,878. His salary for the past year was $98,607.

The council renewed his contract after holding a closed session Monday night to discuss his personnel evaluation.

“The staff we have in the city is top of the line, and the city manager deserves a lot of the praise for how the city has functioned. We are very pleased to have him back for another year,” said Council Member Glenn Law.

Mayor Gretchen Driskell said Campbell had been doing an excellent job over the past year.

“He’s been keeping the budget in line while still having a growing city. This is due to the leadership of the city manager. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to another year,” she said.

I can not speak to what kind of job he has done. But for ANY public employee to take a raise in this economy is selfish and shows no concern for all those that have lost their jobs but still have to figure out how to pay their taxes so he can get a raise! Shameful and showed no guts on the part of Saline City Council.

Keeping the budget in line? According to a previous story he has kept the budget in line by eliminating jobs, apparently so he can secure a fat raise for himself. I fail to see where he as done a great job as city manager. He was appointed to a community committee to which he rarely showed for meetings and even more rarely had anything meaningful to contribute to the discussion. Oh well, it will look good on his CV when he moves on.

Why do government employees continue to get raises while the rest of us are still fighting this poor economy? I work hard and do a great job, but no raise in the 12 mos on this job. Not to mention my current job pays half of what I made before the economy went down. I think it sets a poor example for anyone in any government position to take a pay raise.
