Huron Valley Volleyball Clubs to rent space from business in Saline

By Tara Cavanaugh

Huron Valley Volleyball Clubs, a nonprofit organization based in Ann Arbor, will rent space from Ann Arbor Plastics in Saline starting in January.

Huron Valley Volleyball will rent half of Ann Arbor Plastics' building at 815 E. Woodland Drive, or about 12,000 square feet, and renovate it to create three volleyball courts. “Ideally, we’d like to be able to purchase it in a couple of years,” Steve Nagy, president of the nonprofit organization, said.

Huron Valley Volleyball Clubs, formed in 2003, offers volleyball teams and training to youths in the area. For the past two years, the club has rented space from athletic clubs and school gyms. Nagy said a main location in Saline will make it easier for the group to schedule practices and tournaments.

Huron Valley Volleyball coordinates up to 30 teams on average, Nagy said. The regular season runs from Jan. to June, but it also offers winter teams and year round clinics.

The Saline City Council granted a special use permit for the organization's rental of the space at a meeting Monday night, but specified that the group needs to repave the parking lot and provide it with lights. The organization has until September to renovate the parking lot, and Nagy said it will share the cost with Ann Arbor Plastics.
