The Saline School District taxpayers are going to get exactly what they deserve. The SEA did back Mr. Carter and he along with Friese and Medley and others will be kissing the MEA's and SEA's back side. I will vote no on any future millage unless we get serious givebacks from the SEA, period!

@InsideTheHall - Please do not say that the people of SAS endorse the use of religious beliefs in policymaking, because I certainly do not; and I can guarantee you that many people within the district do not endorse it either. I have no problem with someone being religious, as long as they adhere to the principle of separation of church and state. There are non-Christian students in SAS, and they have a right to attend a school that does not attempt to shove Judeo-Christian values and beliefs down their throats; which can easily be done subliminally through policies and the enforcement (or lack thereof) of those policies. The simple fact is that saline area schools is a PUBLIC school district, and therefore saline area schools MUST be a secular institution. That is not just my belief, it is the law. Below is some suggested reading for anyone who disagrees with the fact that SAS must be a secular institution, with secular policies. -Thomas Jefferson's "Wall of Separation" Letter -Thomas Paine's "The Age of Reason" pamphlet -The Bill of Rights (specifically the Establishment Clause of the 1st Amendment) -The 14th Amendment of the Constitution (specifically the Incorporation Clause, aka, the Doctrine of Incorporation) -The Treaty of Tripoli (which states, "...the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion...") -Reynolds v. US (1878) -Everson v. Board of Education (1947) -Engel v. Vitale (1962)

I am very disappointed in the Saline community. Mr. Carter is unprepared to take on the SEA, which is the biggest issue facing the Board of Education currently. Mr. Hynek had a great track record of being informed, interested, and strong with regards to union contracts. Mr. Carter was ENDORSED by the SEA. The election of Mr. Carter is a grave mistake.

Yes it does matter. Carter will act in accordance with his Christian values when making decisions. The people of SAS obviously endorse that in electing Carter. Ah democracy is good.

The following statement reflects my personal views, and not the views of Faupel4Students or anyone associated with Faupel4Students. @InsideTheHall- How does being a Christian have anything to do with one's ability to serve as a member of the Board of Education? There is a Muslim congressman from Minnesota's 5th district who was re-elected with over 67% of the vote last night, so one can assume that he does a more than adequate job, eventhough he is a Muslim. Someone's religion (or lack thereof) is not relevant to their ability to serve in a governmental body. Religious views and opinions do not have a place in policymaking; and I sincerely hope that Mr. Carter realizes that, and that he keeps that in mind while performing his duties on the board.

Todd Carter is a good Christian conservative and will make a fine addition to the board.

As a representative of Marian Faupel's campaign, I would like to relay a message from Marian and the entire campaign. We wish to congratulate Mr. Carter for running a successful campaign. We hope that his term on the board is productive and successful. Marian, will be watching the board closely in the following weeks and months, and is seriously considering running again in 2011; she will make a final decision depending on the decisions that the board makes and the policies that it implements. Lastly, we wish to thank everyone for their support, over the past few weeks! As an individual, I wish to post corrections to the vote totals that AnnArbor.com has posted. According to eWashtenaw.org, the vote totals are as follows: Todd Carter received 3728 votes, or 50.86% of the vote; Paul Hynek received 2760 votes, or 37.65% of the vote; and Marian Faupel received 842 votes, or 11.49% of the vote (which is an impressive total for a write in candidate, in my opinion).

Todd Carter said at the Candidate forum that he hadn't looked at the Contracts, what makes anyone think that he will look at them now that he has been elected - when you are in the SEA pocket why bother reading the contract and having the SEA take cuts and tighten their belts. One more person on the Board who will do what is good for the SEA but not for the Saline Community taxpayers.

Now that he won, let's see if Todd Carter will open up the teacher contracts so that they HAVE to contribute to their own healthcare. Millages will never pass again in Saline Schools until the voters can see that everyone is trying to tighten the belt, the teachers included. Hope that Todd can put his "effort" where his mouth is.

Thank goodness the voters kept Faupel, she would have been a horrendous choice for Saline schools. I voted for Hynek but he probably lost because voters agnst toward incumbents this go around.

That's too bad. Carter clearly was not prepared nor was he able to speak substantively on the issues at the debate between the three candidates. I guess it's true, it's not what you know but who you know! I hope Faupel runs again --- she would be an asset to the Saline School Board!
