Jim Peters appointed to fill vacant seat on the Saline City Council

By Lisa Allmendinger

Jim Peters was appointed to the Saline City Council Monday night as its newest member filling the vacant seat of Pat Ivey, who resigned in July.

Peters, who moved to Saline in 1988, is a member of the Celtic Festival executive committee and the founder of Saline K9 Crusaders, a nonprofit organization that dedicates its efforts to raising money for local animal shelters.

He’s a volunteer at Rentschler Farm, where he helps maintain the heritage garden, and a member and volunteer at St. Andrew the Apostle church in Saline.

The appointed position runs through Dec. 31, and is one of three up for grabs in the Nov. 8 general election. Ivey resigned when he moved out of state for a new job.

Interested candidates have until 4 p.m. today to submit their petitions with 50 valid signatures for the nonpartisan election. City Council seats are for two years.

So far, five candidates have submitted petitions to run for City Council: Peters, Jim Roth, incumbents Linda TerHaar and Glenn Law and former city employee John J. Heller.
