More thefts from unlocked vehicles reported in Saline

By Art Aisner

Unlocked vehicles continue to be targeted by opportunistic thieves in Saline, police reports said.

Different residents in the 500 block of Pembroke Drive reported their vehicles were entered between July 14-15. One man reported a Black and Decker car vacuum and miscellaneous charging cords were stolen.

There was no damage to the vehicle, which he realized was left unlocked, reports said.

A resident down the street reported a driver’s registration and vehicle insurance information were taken from their unlocked car parked in the driveway overnight. A cell phone charger valued at about $25 was also missing.

Since late June, Saline police have responded to nearly two dozen reports of larcenies from unlocked vehicles parked around residential and commercial areas in the city. Money and small electronic devices were taken in most of the incidents. No suspect information has been reported to police, reports said.

Officials reiterate the importance of keeping vehicles locked when parked overnight, and when possible to take valuables indoors.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Don Lupi at 429-7911 or e-mail him at dlupi@cityofsaline.org.
