Saline City Council approves addition of 3 emergency warning sirens

By Cole Bertsos

Three emergency warning sirens were approved by the Saline City Council at last Monday's meeting, reported the Saline Patch.

The sirens will be placed at the corner of North Ann Arbor Street and Woodland Drive, on Michigan Avenue west of Maple Road and on Austin Drive near Michigan Avenue. The sirens will be activated during severe weather, hazardous spills and national security incidents.

According to the publication, city council members initially were hesitant to support the plan of action because one of the city's most densely populated neighborhoods was not in the one-mile range of the new sirens. They remedied this by moving the siren located on Woodland Road closer to Ann Arbor Street

Council member Brian Marl said he supported the plans.

“I thank the county for its willingness to look seriously at places other than what was proposed two weeks ago. I think the (plan) sufficiently covers all of Northview subdivision, which is one of Saline’s most densely populated areas,” Marl told Saline Patch.

Don't forget the NOAA weather radios. Current models allow you to set the alert for a single county...or even a part of a county, and you are more likely to hear the radio inside your home than the siren unless you live right underneath one.

One thing you forgot to mention: they are also set off every Saturday at noon. Not great for people who work nights.

Amazing that people who get paid to write can't do a better job.
