Saline Area Historical Society Antique Show to feature 34 dealers from three states

By Lisa Allmendinger

Several new dealers are expected at this year’s Saline Area Historical Society Annual Antique Show at the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds on Jan. 15.

“It’s been held for 23 years and is regarded as one of the premiere shows for antique hunters in the area,” said David Rhoads, president of the Historical Society.

Janet Swope, chairman of the show, said about 34 antique dealers from three states will exhibit, including several new vendors who will sell items such as linens and women’s antiques like old compacts and purses.

Also expected are dealers who specialize in oil paintings and prints, duck decoys and fishing lures as well as antique postcards and books.

“We’re known as a general merchandise show and we draw a good crowd,” Swope said. “We are known for good quality (antiques) and being a very friendly show.”

Saline Girl Scout Troop 648 sells refreshments, Swope said, “including famous homemade apple pies, which are prepared on site. This is a fundraiser for them and they always draw a big crowd.”

The show runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The farm council grounds are at 5055 Ann Arbor-Saline Road. Admission is $3.

Proceeds from the event are used for educational programs for children who tour the Rentschler Farm Museum to learn about life on a Depression-era farm.

Some of the funds also support a variety of exhibits at the farm museum and Saline Depot Museum, which the Historical Society maintains.
