Saline man awaiting sentencing for fraud accused of shoplifting
A Saline man awaiting sentencing on fraud charges was recently arrested for allegedly stealing liquor from a drugstore.
Police arrested Michael Irey, 20, after employees at Country Market detained him for taking a bottle of tequila without paying at about 8:40 p.m. on Aug. 8, reports said.
An employee saw Irey put the $14 bottle of alcohol in his pocket and try to conceal it behind an apron he was wearing, reports said. Irey approached the register and paid for a soft drink and a beer while she paged a manager.
Irey said he left his identification in the car but had recently turned 21. The employee completed the sale while stalling for the manager, who stopped Irey as he walked out the door.
Irey didn't resist and turned over the tequila. He was booked for retail fraud and released pending charges.
Last month, Irey pleaded guilty to using a credit card that was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in late April, court records show. Additional counts of credit card fraud and breaking and entering will be dismissed at sentencing on Sept. 8.
Records show Irey had an agreement with Circuit Judge Archie Brown to be sentenced under the Holmes Youthful Trainee Act, which allows certain felony convictions of those between ages 17 and 20 to be expunged upon completion of a court sentence.
It was unclear whether the new charges will impact the agreement, officials said.

Note to inside the hall: At the rate this young man is going, if his criminal activity is allowed to escalate - his VICTIMS may need our prayers! Sadly, MANY criminals are from GOOD families.

the best sentence is prayer? why so he doesn't learn his lesson and goes to victimize more people are ruin their credit? He messed up twice, he got caught twice, he obviously isn't very good at committing crime so maybe a nice little stint at the hogbag will clear his head.

Right, let's pray about it. Really? How sad that you think "the community" shares in your belief of fairy tales. Didn't all your prayers for the world help detract him from doing this sort of thing in the first place? Maybe you should consider that your community is made up of different people who don't all think like you do.

This is a sad story. The Irey family are good people and they have a troubled son. The best sentence is community prayer.

The employees at Whole Foods wouldn't dare stop a shoplifter for fear of being fired. mlive.com/news/index.ssf/2007/12/grocery_worker_fired_for_stopp.html Good on these guys and the store.
