Saline police investigate second series of car break-ins

By Art Aisner

Saline police say they're investigating a second rash of thefts from unlocked cars that could be related to more than a dozen incidents reported two weeks earlier.

Police reports show residents on Hollywood Drive and Russell Street, and a business owner on Michigan Avenue, all had their vehicles entered and rummaged through between 2 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. on June 29.

A new Garmin GPS system still in the box, an iPod Nano and loose change were taken. All the vehicles were unlocked, and no damage was reported.

No suspect information was available.

Detective Don Lupi said police can't confirm all the incidents are related, but reiterated the importance of locking all vehicles and taking valuables out to deter opportunistic thieves.

Police are still trying to identify a suspect or suspects responsible for more than a dozen vehicle break-ins outside homes around the center of the city, all reported on June 15.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lupi at 429-7911 or e-mail him at dlupi@cityofsaline.org.
