Saline police probe thefts of log splitters from tractor store

By Art Aisner

Saline police say three large log splitters have been stolen from the grounds of the Tractor Supply Company in the past month.

Two of the 35-ton machines were discovered missing by employees when they arrived for work on Aug. 13, police reports said. The cables locking them inside a fenced area were severed. Their combined valued is roughly $4,500.

Police reports show another log splitter was taken earlier in a similar fashion, sometime between July 17 and July 22. Officers suspected a bolt cutter was used to free the machine and a single-axle trailer it was on.

No suspect information was available in either incident. A smaller pickup truck, possibly green or another dark color, was reportedly seen in the area at the time of the most recent theft.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Don Lupi at 734-429-7911 or e-mail him at dlupi@cityofsaline.org.
