Brandon Inge and several other members of the Detroit Tigers baseball team will be the main attraction at a benefit auction in Saline July 1 for a cancer research fundraiser.
The Bid for a Cure fundraiser will include autographs from the players, a live auction with such offerings as 18 tickets for Brandon Inge's luxury suite at Comerica Park to watch Tigers batting practice, a beer and wine tent, music and food.

Dexter resident Kate Mittenthal, who is helping to organize the event, said it will help raise money for a team of participants in the Susan G. Komen three-day breast cancer walk that will take place in the fall. Each participant has to raise $2,300 to walk. The walking team includes six women in Michigan and 13 in Boston, she said.
Saline City Council members unanimously approved the fundraiser, to be hosted by the Brecon Grille, Monday. It will run from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on South Ann Arbor Street from Michigan Avenue to Henry Street and include performances by the band Verve Pipe and others. Mittenthal said she expects 10 Tigers players to participate in the autograph signing. “We’re gearing this toward young people,” she said, adding that there will also be caricature artists and face painting.
Admission to the event will be $5 for those over 21 and free to those younger. Mittenthal expects from 2,000 to 5,000 to attend.
“We had a small event in Dexter (last fall),” she said. “We just had Brandon Inge from 4 p.m. until the restaurant closed, and it was not as highly publicized, and we had a lot of people.”
