Saline Township man flown to hospital by Survival Flight after chainsaw accident
A Saline Township man was flown by Survival Flight to University of Michigan hospital Friday afternoon after injuring himself in a chainsaw accident, according to officials.
Huron Valley Ambulance spokeswoman Joyce Williams said paramedics responded at 4:05 p.m. Friday to a field on Macon Road between Marion and Braun Roads.
Saline Area Fire Department Assistant Chief Charles Schaible said the man suffered a leg injury while using a chainsaw working in the field. Schaible confirmed the man was transported by Survival Flight but didn’t know how the accident happened or what condition he man was in when he was transported.
The circumstances of the accident and the man’s age were not known immediately Friday afternoon. A Saline police dispatcher said that department was not dispatched on the call and it wasn’t immediately clear if the incident happened in the jurisdiction of the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office or the Michigan State Police. Officials were checking for more information Friday afternoon.

Anybody know why this location might be the State Police's jurisdiction and not the county sheriff's?

Thanks Fat Bill, I knew that some townships don't contract with the county deputies to patrol, but I thought that meant they got covered by the smaller number of general fund deputies for emergencies, and didn't get patrols. I didn't realize they didn't get any sheriff's office protection. That seems nutty to me, seems like the State Police are pretty far away, but then I live in the crime-infested city. :)

Certain townships in this county do not pay for Sheriff's patrols...In Michigan that means MSP handles police matters in those areas.

Thanks connie, that occurred to me after I posted. Is there any state-owned land in Saline Township? I tried to use the county website's map viewer (which is pretty cool), but it doesn't seem to have a layer for state-owned land. http://www.ewashtenaw.org/government/departments/gis/MapWashtenaw_Main.htm

i use a new style of chain saw,its called a JAW SAW,its made by a co. called WORX . THERES NO POSSIBILITY of injury unless u do it on purpose. its an electric saw so it has its limitations,and you may need a very long ext. cord but it cuts up to 3in.logs . its ideal for the average homeowner,not really made for the person who cuts down trees for a living. check out their web site.www.worxyardtools.com

There called "chaps" like a pair of jeans with the back cut out of them,protects the front part of the legs and will stop dead in its tracks a full throttle chain saw. I went thru the same thing this guy is going thru. Then I saw the light and wised up and bought a pair of them $100.00 well worth the price Available at most places that sell chain saws.

I really hope that he is able to fully heal from this accident. My heart and thoughts are with this man and his family in this terrifying time in their life.

Just the words "chainsaw accident" bring terror to the mind. I hope that he will recover fully from this. I don't think it is appropriate to comment on safety at this time.
