Saline's annual Summerfest promises big crowds, food and fun
Starting Friday evening and ending Saturday night, Saline’s Summerfest is expected to attract hundreds to Saline’s downtown with a variety of crowd-pleasing activities.
Athletes will enjoy the volleyball tournament and the 5K run/walk on Saturday morning. Dance lovers can watch performances from local dance studios on Friday night. Teens will like Saturday night’s Teen Block Party sponsored by the Fifth Corner Teen Center, which will open in the fall. Music lovers can attend concerts by local bands on both nights.
Anyone who enjoys food ¬¬- and who doesn’t? - can chow on a chicken dinner cooked by the Saline Fire Department, or take their pick from other treats provided by local businesses and social clubs.
Art Trapp, Saline’s Downtown Development Director, has coordinated Summerfest for the past five years. “Every year we try to do something different, to keep it fresh,” he said. A new activity this year is Touch a Truck. Kids and adults will be able to climb into vehicles from the police and fire departments.
Artists have also been added to the craft show, so in addition to purchasing handcrafted items, shoppers will be able to buy art pieces on par with those displayed at the Ann Arbor Art Fairs, Trapp said.
Best of all, there’s no admission charge for any part of the festival. For a complete listing of food, events, and vendors, check out www.salinesummerfest.org.
