Toilet vandalized by patron at Saline laundromat; police have few clues

By Art Aisner

The owner of a Saline laundromat reported someone caused significant damage to the bathroom at the business last week.

An officer responded to the Parkside Laundromat at 695 W. Michigan Ave. just after 5 p.m. on Feb. 16 to report a porcelain toilet was smashed and overturned, reports said. The toilet was broken, pulled off the mountings on the floor and turned on its side. The contents were spilled all over the floor.

Police said the damage appeared to be intentional, and nothing else in the bathroom was tampered with. An employee told the officer they had to force the door open and destroy the lock because someone locked the door from the inside and shut it behind when leaving.

Police reports say that video surveillance cameras captured several people trying to use the bathroom, but they were unable to open the door throughout the afternoon. The last person seen exiting the bathroom a few hours earlier shook his head repeatedly from side to side. A detailed physical description was not available.

The business was allowed to stay open, but damage was estimated at $200.

Anyone with information is asked to call the department at 734-429-7911 or Detective Don Lupi at dlupi@cityofsaline.org.

It makes me wonder if something of value was dropped in the toilet? A diamond ring, a cell phone? Apparently the toilet wasn't flushed, but still couldn't find an item. $200.00 worth of repair, I can only hope the jerk lost more than that. Perhaps the last guy exit-ing, shaking his head is the right suspect.
