School board races from around Washtenaw County set to be contested in November
School board elections from around Washtenaw County will feature contested races this November.
Six candidates running for two open spots on the Ann Arbor Board of Education.
Election day is Nov. 8 and the last day to register to vote is on Oct. 11. Absentee ballots will begin to be issued for the election on Sept. 24.
Candidates had until 4 p.m. Tuesday to file for the election.
The candidates in the Saline election for 2 positions on the school board are incumbent trustee David Friese, along with David Holden, David Zimmer and Patricia Tanner. Holden and Zimmer frequently speak at Saline board meetings. Saline school board vice president David Medley did not file to run for re-election.
In Ypsilanti, 2 spots are open to be contested on the school board with 3 candidates having filed to run for election. Incumbent trustee Andy Fanta is seeking re-election and will face Eric Temple and Linda Snedacar-Horne. Ypsilanti school board vice president Floyd Brumfield did not file to run for re-election.
Snedacar-Horne is a former member of the school board and was voted out of office in November 2010. Temple ran in that election as well and was passed over by voters when Ellen Champagne and school board president David Bates were elected.
In Lincoln, school board president Kim Samuelson is seeking re-election and will face Brad Labadie and David McMahon with two spots to be filled. Lincoln school board vice president Jeremy Keeney did not file to run for re-election.
The Milan Board of Education will have three spots contested among five candidates: Incumbents Janie Kiger, Diane Hovatter and Eric Peacock, along with Alan Fellhauer and Sean Duval.
Newcomer Melanie Nau will challenge incumbents Christine Fegan and Lyndon Uphaus for two spots on the Manchester Board of Education.
