Fire damages barn in Scio Township

By Juliana Keeping

Firefighters from several departments extinguished a blaze today that started when a tractor caught fire at a Scio Township farm.

No one was injured. The fire lightly damaged the entryway to a metal pole barn at 7150 Scio Church Road, said Scio Township Fire Chief Carl Ferch.

"The tractor was a complete loss," Ferch said.

The Scio Township, Saline and Dexter fire departments responded to a 9:18 a.m. call of the fire and extinguished it in about 20 minutes, Ferch said.

"Saline Area Fire hooked a chain to it and dragged the tractor out of the barn," Ferch said, which prevented further damage. "The idea is to keep it from extending into the barn. On the west side, the wall used to be corn crib. There was an extensive amount of potential fuel in there."

Scio Township rescues another vehicle from fire damage, these men need to be commended for the care and hard work they do. All of them put their lives on the line for us. People they do not even know. I commened the Scio, Dexter and Saline Firefighters for all the work they do for ALL of us. Maybe give them a visit sometime and just all you have to say is Thank you. I am sorry about this families fire but it could have been much worse if it weren't for the brave men and women who came to your home. I hope you are able to rebuild soon and all goes well for you.
