Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for Washtenaw County

A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect for Washtenaw County until 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The Doppler radar indicated at 5:52 p.m. a line of severe storms capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 mph.

The storms will be near Saline and Salem around 6:15 p.m. and Pittsfield Township and Ypsilanti around 6:20 p.m.

The warning includes areas surrounding Ypsilanti, Saline, Manchester, Dexter, Chelsea and Ann Arbor.

According to the Weather Service, torrential rainfall is also occurring with the storms and may cause flash flooding. Residents are cautioned not to drive through flooded roadways.

This should be updated letting people know the warning is in effect till 1am and the fact that in the 6pm hour there were clouds tiwisting in a pre tornado like fashion above the AA Ypsilanti area
