Slippery roads create vehicle collisions around Washtenaw County

By Bob Needham

The snow falling throughout the day has created hazardous driving conditions and several traffic crashes around the area, according to Washtenaw County Central Dispatch.

One serious incident involved 45 vehicles and closed northbound US-23 just south of Milan.

Another crash on southbound US-23 north of Geddes involves several vehicles, although the freeway remained open, an officer with Central Dispatch said. Huron Valley Ambulance spokeswoman Joyce Williams said one ambulance responded to the scene of that incident, but no one required transport to a hospital.

A less serious accident was been reported on eastbound M-14 near Vorhies, Central Dispatch said. Williams said that crash involved a single vehicle that slid into a ditch, but no serious injuries were reported.

A small incident at Fifth Avenue and Liberty Street briefly impacted traffic in downtown Ann Arbor, Central Dispatch said.

Another multi-vehicle crash has also been reported on I-94 in Wayne County's Van Buren Township.

No further information on the crashes was available, but police advise extreme caution on the roadways. Snow squalls may continue to create difficult conditions throughout the afternoon.

It just never seems to amaze me that drivers just don't quite understand that if there is snow on the ground or road, it is going to be slippery. Slow down and save a life.

I love how its always the weathers fault...never the people speeding, following too close! Slow down people!

I swear drivers skills are in the poor house. Every single time we get snow squalls there is multi pileups, 30 or more cars. What happen to driving 45 mph max in bad weather ? We need self driving cars now, lol

Bob, with too many balls in the air you were probably imagining being in Florida reporting on the Tigers start of spring training.
