This golf umbrella proved no match for the 30-plus m.p.h. wind gusts roaring across the Huron High School baseball field during the second game of their doubleheader against Allen Park High School, Saturday, April 3rd.

Today's high winds and approaching storms appear to be causing power surges in some parts of the Ann Arbor area, and at least one outage has been reported on the city's north side due to an issue with a power line.

About 500 customers on Ann Arbor's North Side were without power as of about 2:45 p.m., said DTE Energy spokeswoman Eileen Dixon. Crews went out to work on the affected trunkline around 1 p.m. and power should be restored by early this evening.

Some affected street lights are also flashing red in the Ann Arbor area.

The map below shows the area affected in Ann Arbor, according to DTE Energy's website:

The map is not really very useful as it shows all of the city of Ann Arbor in blue, indicating that there were from 101-1000 customers somewhere in the city without power. That's very coarse resolution. Furthermore, you wrote, "Some affected street lights are also flashing red in the Ann Arbor area." I have never seen *street lights* flashing red. That would seem somewhat apocalyptic. However, we did drive out Stadium at around 12:30 PM and saw *traffic signals* flashing red. That was the case at Stadium and Packard. The situation at Stadium and Industrial Parkway was more serious. The signals as we approached the intersection going west on Stadium were green, then as we neared the intersection, the signals started flashing red while the green light continued steady. I called the police and they blew me off, saying that they already knew all about it. The operator didn't want to hear about the newly developed, extraordinary situation of conflicting signals at the intersection. I've never seen this situation before. I thought it warranted an officer directing traffic there.

Some of the wind gusts out here in Lodi Township had to be pushing 45-50 mph. Seems to be calming a little bit though thank goodness.
