State legislators come up with school budget deal
By David Jesse

According to the deal worked out in the late-night hours, schools would lose $165 per pupil under the plan. That will create a budget hit for local school districts, but is less than the $218 per pupil cut most school leaders thought they would get.

Interesting Op-Ed piece from Paul Krugman in the NY Times yesterday - http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/09/opinion/09krugman.html?emc=eta1 He highlights the issues facing the American education system - which are amplified here in Michigan.

Way to go lawmakers. Keep taking from the kids and then lowering their math ciriculum. We have some real geniuses working up in Lansing. There will be no way that Michigan students will compete against other students in the nation when we keep lowering their standards and taking money and teachers away from the schools.
