Student film group receives top honors for public service announcements

By Kellie Woodhouse

University of Michigan student filmmakers swept the Michigan Association of Broadcasters 2012 college film awards for public service announcements, receiving all three of the top honors in that category.

The three ads that won were created by Filmic Productions, a video production company created and run by U-M students, for the university's Expect Respect campaign.

The second-place winner, "Huddle-up," was the first-ever homophobia ad to air at Michigan Stadium before a football game.

An ad students created using Wolverine football legend Desmond Howard, now an ESPN personality, generated buzz on campus this year but did not win an award.
