Teenager lies about man exposing himself, Ann Arbor police report says

By Lee Higgins

A 17-year-old Lodi Township girl claimed a man exposed himself to her Saturday night, then later admitted she lied in an attempt to get attention, Ann Arbor police said.

So far, no charges have been filed against the teen, police said.

The girl told officers a man jumped out of the bushes on State Street at about 7:45 p.m. and exposed himself, according to the police report. She provided investigators with a description of the man, including his skin color, height, build, hair color and age, the report said.

Police responded after receiving a 911 call. A tracking dog was brought to the scene to search the area, and University of Michigan police also were notified.

The girl originally told two women who were looking at Christmas trees that she was raped, the report said. She was crying when she talked to them, according to the report.

The girl apologized to police, and her parents told investigators she has a mental disorder, the report said.

The incident remains under investigation, police Lt. Renee Bush said.

The girl is minor. The police did not call her parents for several hours. A minor has the right to have her parents informed. Hey, MB - She identified the man as white and under 40. I think she told the truth. I think the police convinced her she was confused. Not hard to do with mentally disabled or any one.

She provided investigators with a description, i'm sure it was another big black guy story...I'm sick of people lying on the brothers....Like the stick up yesterday on e.m.u. campus that made all the news channel and to find out today the boys were lying about the whole story...Once again the big black guy LIE...

I didn't realize this blog was to be "productive or helpful for anyone involved" in the articles. That being said, how about reporting hard facts, with no option for speculation.

With respect to ehsensitivity guidelines mentioned earlier this week, it should be noted that the story says she has a mental disorder, maybe we shouldn't rush to judgment so quick.

I agree. Supposed she had even falsely picked someone out of a line-up? She obviously knew what she was doing. What kind of mental disorder makes you falsely accuse a person of rape? I hope she gets help.

Hi Wolverine3660, Here's a link to a story we wrote on some recent false reports to police. http://www.annarbor.com/news/investigators-have-probed-three-false-reports-in-three-weeks/

This girl ought to be charged for filing a false report. BTW, has AnnArbor.com done any follow-up on the stories of the EMU student and the U-M Medical Student who both filed false reports to the police?

If any other "real" crimes were going on, she committed a REAL crime!

If any other real crimes were going on at the same time I'd suggest she be charged as an accomplice. Aiding and abetting at the very least.

Filing a false police report, she better be charged. Police officers are losing their jobs and stupid people want to waste their time. I hope she learns a valuable lesson.
