Traffic shifts on Plymouth Road in Ann Arbor to begin Thursday

By Heather Lockwood

Motorists should expect several traffic shifts on Plymouth Road, east of Barton Drive and west of Broadway Street, during the next few weeks, according to a city of Ann Arbor news release.

Traffic shifts will allow for the removal and replacement of damaged asphalt pavement.

Beginning Thursday, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on the eastbound side of the road for milling and paving of the westbound side of the road. Paving will take place Friday, and the road is expected to be fully re-opened by the weekend.

And beginning next week, traffic is to be shifted to the westbound side of the road to allow for work on the eastbound side. That work is expected to be complete by the week of Nov. 8, according to the release.

Motorists are asked to drive cautiously and at a reduced speed while road work is being done.

Why are they paving only a part of Green Road from Plymouth to Glazier Way?! This entire section is a driver's nightmare! Did they run out of money?! It seems inexcusable that this entire section is not paved!!

To those expressing comments/surprise about the manner in which the work was completed: The most important goal of projects of this type is to line the pockets of the contractors and unions, and not to fundamentally make thing better. Heck, if they did that, there would be limited pocket-lining opportunities in the future.

@Jafo -- Yeah, makes you glad you suffered through almost 3 months of the equally botched deployment of that construction project, only to have it end up looking as bad as it did before the "improvement". Apparently the solution was just to pack their trucks up and move farther down the street. Does anyone know if the painting crews are separate from the other work crews? I'm surprised that they're moving on to new projects like this one when the crosswalk lines still aren't completely painted on Plymouth at Green. Last week I saw a blind person trying to cross the street there who appeared to be really struggling without the lines painted on (Someone on our bus said the texture is a cue that they are on the crosswalk?). If it's an issue of safety you'd think they would be required to finish it before starting something else.

This stretch of Plymouth is *crawling* with cops these days. It's absurdly easy to speed and get caught there. Be aware.

Any word on the botched patch job on Plymouth road west of Green? A day or two before they completey reopened the road and before they painted the white lane makers, the city was working on a water line and they awful job ptaching the hole back up. Every time I drive by it I keep wondering what these fools were thinking; it was almost as bad as them patching the pot holes along Plymouth road one week before they ripped everything up (yes after the lanes were sectioned off).
