Thieves steal new navigation radios out of cars on Saline dealership lot

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Saline police say thieves broke into at least eight cars at a Chrysler dealership to steal new navigation radios overnight Wednesday.

According to a police bulletin, the thieves parked in a nearby church parking lot and walked to LaFontaine Chrysler in the 900 block of West Michigan Avenue after the cleaning crew left at 1 a.m.

The thieves broke out a window of each car and climbed into the car through the window so they wouldn’t set the alarm off, the bulletin said. They tore the dash apart and took only the navigation radio out of each car, then exited the vehicle out of the broken window, the bulletin said.

Information on the value of each radio and the damage caused was not available today.

Anyone with information is asked to call Saline police at 734-429-4911.

"The thieves broke out a window of each car and climbed into the car through the window so they wouldnt set the alarm off, the bulletin said." That doesn't speak very highly of the alarm if it didn't go off when the window was broken!

I wonder if they have a pass code for them to be able to function, if not maybe they should so they would be rendered useless, that's of course they happen to be inside the vehicle.

What kind of junk alarm system will not go off when someone brakes a window or is inside tearing apart a car.Sounds like maybe they forgot to set the alarms.

Hopefully there were video cameras on site to help id the thieves. That is a very isolated corner on the outskirt of the city.

Thanks, so it's really a multi-media piece of equipment...and we should be on the look-out for these parts on e-bay or craigslist, unless the area has some shady repair facilities using hot parts...how many hits of crack can one buy with this electronic system?
