Three arrested, two sought after Lodi Township burglary Saturday

By Lee Higgins

Three men were arrested and two others are being sought after they fled the scene of a burglary Saturday in Lodi Township, a Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department incident summary said.

The five were scared away from a home in the 6500 block of West Ellsworth Road and crashed their van into a patrol car as they attempted to get away, the summary said.

Two of the men were able to elude deputies, the summary said. A 22-year-old Ypsilanti resident and two Ypsilanti Township residents, ages 18 and 19, were arrested, the summary said.

The homeowner, who rents the home to tenants, stopped by at 11:10 a.m. and saw two men in a van in the driveway, the summary said. She questioned what they were doing, and that's when three other men ran from the home and got into the van, the summary said.

The woman called 911 and followed the van to Zeeb Road near Scio Church Road, where it crashed into the patrol car. A deputy inside the patrol car was not injured.

The three in custody were scheduled to be arraigned on criminal charges today.

I too was concerned, since I drove up to the incident in progress on Scio Church Road Saturday. The K-9 unit and the Horse Units were on site and there were various police cars posted in spots along Scio Church road and even in the middle of homeowners farmland. It was obvious that they were looking for person(s) on the run. I went online all day Saturday and Sunday looking for something. I even called the police department to inquire about the incident. I needed to know if the person(s) were caught or if we needed to be on the look out for anyone coming around the property where my boyfriend lives since he is just around the corner from where this occurred. I was told that 3 were found and 2 were not captured but that they knew who they were and it would be only a matter of time before they were caught and to use normal percaution in the area. We subscribed Sunday evening to the Washtenaw email alert system (which I recommend doing) and the following was emailed on Monday morning: Arrest Information Home Invasion Arrest #10-21824 On 5/22/2010 at approximately 11:10 AM, WCSO Deputies were dispatched to the 6500 block of W. Ellsworth Road in Lodi Township for a Home Invasion that just occurred. The home owner entered her brother-in laws driveway to find an unknown blue mini-van in the drive occupied with two black males. While the witness questioned the driver as to what he was doing, three additional males came running from the home, and got into the van. The witness contacted 911, and followed the suspects to Zeeb Road near Scio Church Road. The suspect vehicle came to rest crashing into a WCSO patrol vehicle. All five occupants fled from the vehicle, but three were captured within moments from responding Deputies, with the assistance from the Chelsea Police Department K-9 Unit, and the WCSO Mounted Unit. The three suspects were arrested and transported to the WCJ. They will be arraigned later today. S1-22-years old, Ypsilanti City Resident S2-19-years old, Ypsilanti Township Resident S3-18-years old, Ypsilanti Township Resident Thank goodness no one was injured. It was an amazing site to see happening and what a great effort our police force did to capture 3 of the individuals.

Lee 1968 is quite correct - I posted a comment on Sunday asking why there was no update yet! This is supposed to be local news, right? And this has been a big problem, right? But you are more concerned about hangar vacancies at the airport for breaking coverage. wow! I am so worried about that!

Why did this take so long to hit the news after all the break ins we've had in Lodi the last few months. The summary said!

I certainly hope they get a stern warning not to do it again! AND a fifteen minute time out!
