Three injured in Lima Township collision Wednesday

By Erica Hobbs

Three people, including a 4 year-old boy, were sent to the hospital with mild to moderate injuries following a collision on eastbound I-94 in Lima Township Wednesday morning.

Michigan State Police, the Chelsea Area Fire Authority and Huron Valley Ambulance were dispatched at 7:29 a.m. to a collision involving four cars east of Dancer Road. Traffic was backed up to the Fletcher Road exit while responders shut down all eastbound traffic at Dancer Road. The scene was cleared at 8:36 a.m.

Chelsea Area Fire Authority Capt. Augustine Syrovy said the collision involved three cars with one driver in each and a fourth car with a mother and son. The mother was transported to the hospital with mild back injuries along with her son, who suffered mild lacerations.

Syrovy said another woman was also transported to the hospital with moderate back injuries, though the drivers of the remaining two vehicles declined medical treatment.

Earlier reports from dispatchers indicated there were two separate collisions, but Syrovy could not confirm this.

All four cars were traveling in the left lane of eastbound I-94 this morning. The cause of the accident is unknown, Syrovy said.

If all four cars were traveling in the left lane, then nobody wanted to drive 60 mph. I wonder if the higher speeds caused some of them to lose control of their cars.
