Three men face charges in Ypsilanti Township home invasion attempt
Two Ypsilanti Township men and one Canton Township man face charges in connection with a home invasion attempt in Ypsilanti Township Wednesday.
John Kelly Helm Jr., 18, of Ypsilanti Township; Gabriel Sheldon Clair, 22, of Ypsilanti Township; and Antonio Lopez Jr., 18, of Canton Township, each face charges of first- and second-degree home invasion, according to court records.
All three men are to appear back in court for preliminary hearings March 16, court records indicate.
The men are accused of throwing a large object through a rear window of the residence in the 1000 block of Wismer Street, east of Dorothy Street, about 3:14 a.m. Wednesday, according to a Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office media summary.
The noise woke the people who were home and asleep at the time, police said in the summary.
The residents "confronted several suspects at the rear of the residence" and then immediately called 911 and gave a description of the men, according to the summary. The men did not enter the home.
Responding deputies found a vehicle with several people in it parked several blocks away from the home, the summary said. Deputies found incriminating evidence inside the vehicle, and the men were arrested and taken to the Washtenaw County Jail, the summary said.
