Tips for Tuesday's election and polling location information from the Ann Arbor clerk's office
ROUNDUP: Your guide to AnnArbor.com's coverage leading up to the Nov. 6 election
Voters in Ann Arbor are heading to the polls Tuesday to cast ballots for the nation's next president, Michigan's next U.S. senator, the city's next mayor and to decide a whole host of other issues.
That includes two city tax proposals — a renewal of the parks millage and a new tax for public art — and a bond proposal for a new downtown library.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

- Don’t forget to bring your photo ID to vote. Voters who do not have acceptable photo ID will be required to sign an affidavit in order to vote.
- Peak voting hours are from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Voters who want to avoid long lines are encouraged to vote during midday hours.
- If you are standing in line by 8 p.m., then you won't be turned away.
- Ann Arbor public schools are closed on election day. Polling places located within schools are open. Signs will be posted at all polling locations to assist voters.
Washtenaw County election results will be televised on CTN Channel 19 beginning at 10 p.m. on Tuesday and will continue throughout the night.
AnnArbor.com also will post live results as they become available.
The Ann Arbor clerk's office is reminding voters throughout Washtenaw County to also go online at Michigan.gov/vote before standing in line on election day. The website allows voters to check their registration status, find out where to vote and view a sample ballot specific to the precinct in which they live.

Outstanding job by the folks running the polls at the Chinmaya Mission on Packard this morning! The gentlemen organizing the line in the lobby should be personally commended. Thank you for your efforts! . . . oh, and if you can't even determine what precinct you live in how can claim to be an educated, and responsible voter ? Its pretty basic information and its easy to determine from the local clerks office in any number of ways. . .

Arrived at Slauson at 7:05, total time was about 45 minutes. Not too bad, esp considered almost all of the wait was due to poll worker incompetence. Once they realized they'd need more than 5 voting booths, things sped up a lot. Somehow that took 45 minutes to cross their minds.

I got there at 645 and was 70th in line. I waited almost an hour to get my ballot. Some people in line had to leave to go to work and would have to try again after work. Some ballsy people asked if they could cut in line. Some people brought small children. If you have to bring small children I suggest they have a coloring book or something to pass the time, the people at the end of the line when I left would have been waiting well over an hour by the time they got their ballot. PLEASE have some sort of notion how you are voting before you get there! Go online and READ the ballot for your area, make a cheat sheet if you have to with names and proposals.

It is, to some degree, disappointing that such a right, and responsibility, is dictated so as to occur on a week day--a standard working day for many. One would hope that a better mechanism could be devised to accomodate a bigger and more representative turn-out such as the early voting option in other states.Let's get our lawmakers to tackle this challenge. Also, hearty support for any voter preparation initiatives such as awareness of the ballot.

I wish I could upvote your last paragraph a million times. It amazes me how many people don't have any clue how they're voting until they get the ballot in their hand.

Just came back from voting on the SE side of Ann Arbor. We got there around 6:45 AM and were about 50 in line. Thanks to the poll workers who were very friendly and professional.

My fiance and I just went to our polling place (Scarlett Middle School) and, HOLY COW! The parking lot was packed and there was a huge line. We came home. We live super close, like a 2 minute walk to get there, so we figure we'll just go back later in the day. Still, it's awesome to see so many people out voting!

I commented on the other article, but I'll add it here. We went back to Scarlett about an hour ago and were in and out in about 1/2 hour. There were lines, but nowhere near what they were this morning.

. . . little bit of flag waving here. . its not really so much about "hope". . . but BELIEF that each vote counts. . .that's the pretty much the cornerstone of our republic. There is nothing quite as patriotic as coming together in a civil fashion to peacefully elect our leaders. Let's do all we can as a united people with a united interest in the best possible outcome to effectively quash the bullying shenanigans on "both sides of the aisle"
