Changing patterns: Traffic detours set for University of Michigan move-in week
Temporary traffic and parking changes for move-in week will be in place 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, Sept. 1-4.
They include:
- Thompson Street: One-way traffic southbound between Jefferson and Packard.
- East Madison Street: One-way traffic eastbound between Thompson and State.
- East Ann Street: One-way traffic eastbound between Zina Pitcher and Observatory.
- Observatory: One-way traffic southbound between East Ann Street and Geddes.
Almost all the parking meters in the immediate vicinity of residence halls will be bagged and reserved for students and families who display a proper parking permit. Additional parking changes will impact university parking lots, which will be converted to move-in use only for the duration of the program.
U-M lots that will only be open to students or families between Wednesday and Friday include:
- Lot W-18, on Thompson Street.
- Lot W-16, commonly called the "triangle lot," on Thompson Street.
- Lot M-28, on Washington Heights, will also be dedicated to move-in on Tuesday.
- Lot E-2, on North University Court across from Stockwell Hall.
- Palmer Commons parking structure: Though the structure will remain in normal operation, it will be available for those moving in.
Uniformed housing security officers and university police officers will aid in maintaining traffic-flow in the move-in areas.

so hate this time of year...the traffic is chaotic, and people just don't seen to know how to drive...will not be anywhere near the vicinity of A2 until next year when they all go back home
