Train hits car in Chelsea; no one injured

An Amtrak train struck an unoccupied car Thursday night after the car had a mechanical problem and came to a stop on the railroad tracks, Chelsea Police Chief Ed Toth said.

No one was injured in the 11:24 p.m. collision.

A man was driving east on Dexter-Chelsea Road and turned his car south on Freer Road, and his 1996 Buick Regal had a mechanical problem, Toth said.

Part of his car was stuck on the tracks, and it was hit shortly after the man called 911. The train had passengers on it, but there were no reports of injuries.

I wonder if the bumpy ride over the tracks finally does in whatever was about to break...like a switch, cracked belt, whatever.
