Trial against Dominic Oyerinde concludes; verdict expected this afternoon

By Art Aisner

The trial in the case of Dominic Oyerinde, accused of killing his girlfriend last year, has just concluded.

During closing arguments, prosecutors focused on what they say was Oyerinde's controlling nature in their relationship - evidenced by some Facebook postings.

In them, Oyerinde noted how he'd get back at 17-year-old Anna List if they had a bad breakup.

Police say Oyerinde hit List over the head with a hammer twice on Jan. 13, 2009, outside Ypsilanti's Recreation Park, then fled in her car to a relative's home in Detroit. Authorities arrested him there less than 24 hours later.

List, who was a senior at Ann Arbor's Huron High School, died after being in a coma for a week.

Defense attorneys argued the postings were only snippets of communication between the two of them and didn't reflect their relationship.

The bench trial is being held in front of Judge Archie Brown. He is expected to render a verdict this afternoon.
