Fatal crash on I-94 near Chelsea remains under investigation
Update: Man killed in crash on I-94 identified
A 31-year-old Ypsilanti man was killed and two people were injured after a crash Wednesday night on I-94 at the Pierce Road entrance ramp near Chelsea, Michigan State Police troopers said.
The man was driving a 2002 Ford Ranger pickup truck on I-94 westbound when he lost control on some ice at 9:45 p.m., went off the right side of the road and the truck overturned several times before coming to rest on its roof, troopers said.
The driver and a female passenger were ejected, troopers said. Troopers say the driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the female passenger and a male passenger were taken by ambulance to University of Michigan Hospital. Details on their injuries were not available this morning.
Troopers say speed is believed to be a factor and it does not appear any of the three were wearing seat belts. The accident remains under investigation.
Troopers have not released the driver's name.
Washtenaw County Medical Examiner Bader Cassin could not immediately be reached for comment this morning.
