The cost of resident tuition and fees at the University of Michigan is edging $13,000 after the school's governing board Thursday approved a 2.8 percent increase for the coming academic year.

In-state tuition and fees at U-M
- 2012-13: $12,994; 2.8 percent increase
- 2011-12: $12,634; 6.7 percent increase
- 2010-11: $11,837; 1.5 percent increase
- 2009-10: $11,659; 5.64 percent increase;
- 2008-09: $11,037; 5.65 percent increase
- 2007-08: $10,447; 7.45 percent increase
- 2006-07: $9,723; 5.54 percent increase
- 2005-06: $9,213; 12.34 percent increase
- 2004-05: $8,201; 2.84 percent increase
- 2003-04: $7,975; 5.65 percent increase
