Two drivers escape serious injuries in 2-car crash on US-23 near Geddes Road
Two drivers escaped serious injuries Tuesday afternoon when their vehicles went off US-23 in Ann Arbor Township in a crash that caused both vehicles to overturn multiple times and pin the drivers inside, police said.
The crash occurred on southbound US-23 near Geddes Road at about 1:10 p.m.
State Police Trooper Chris Harris said a woman was driving her Scion in the right lane, but moved into the left lane to pass a Honda CRV. She pulled too far into the left lane, and the Scion ended up on the gravel shoulder, Harris said.
The woman overcorrected, causing her vehicle to strike the CRV, Harris said. The impact sent both vehicles into the ditch, where each rolled over five or six times, Harris said. The Scion eventually came to rest in trees.
Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles, and firefighters had to cut the wreckage apart to free them. But neither driver was seriously injured, Harris said.
The drivers, who were both wearing seat belts, were taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital to be evaluated. No other occupants were in either vehicle.
"They were both conscious and alert at the scene," Harris said.
One lane of traffic was closed following the crash, causing significant traffic back-ups, police said.
No citations have yet been issued because the case remains under investigation, police said. Harris said speed does not appear to be a factor.

I wonder if they checked the girls cell phone who caused the accident? I would like to see the authorities make mention if the drivers involved were using cell phones at the times of incidents.

mkm17.. No where in the article does it state that the young lady was thrown/ejected from her vehicle. Please do not speculate at what you do not know. It is correct though that she was unrestrained.

Wow, I'm glad they're alright! "neither driver was seriously injured...both wearing seat belts" How many times have we seen the other version of this: "driver was killed...not wearing a seat belt"? Wear your seat belts, people!

Wow, the vehicles rolled over but the drivers are OK. Another endorsement for seat belts! Compare this story with the story about the MSU student who was thrown from her vehicle yesterday and died.

Most of the highways were designed for slower speeds then we are traveling today. Clearly, the entrances and exits to US-23 reflect this.
