EMU student sets up another student in armed robbery, police say
An Eastern Michigan University student set up another student to be robbed at gunpoint in a car Tuesday morning, Ypsilanti police said.
The suspect, who is from Brownstown, is one of two people under arrest in the case. A Romulus man also was arrested.
Both of the 18-year-old men are scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, police said. Charges have not yet been authorized.
The 18-year-old victim told police he was in a car with another student he knows when a masked gunman got inside at Ballard and West Cross streets about 12:30 a.m., police said.
The victim reported they were forced to drive to two ATMs in the city to withdraw $300 cash for the masked man, police said.
They dropped off the masked man at East Washtenaw Avenue and North Hewitt Road, police said.
At the time, the victim thought the other student was being robbed. The investigation determined the other student helped plan the robbery, police said.

Aaron, not everyone can afford to live in a nice suburb. I know about Ypsi's reputation and I never meant to imply I am afraid to live there. I've lived there for several years with no real problem. Even so, I like to be prepared and aware. Descriptions of wanted criminals (ever hear of a police sketch?) are given all the time before a prosecution. At the time of your post, their names have already been released, so I don't see why you feel so aggressive about it.

Ricebrner- How you related criminals and societies reasoning for their poor life choices to President Obama is atrocious. One with such narrow minded views such as yourself reminds me of the many narrow minded people I've met in my lifetime that have carried out such crimes. You should try looking at crime in a philosophical or statistical sense. As far as a myriad of stories like this well there's not a myriad, it was a poor choice of words. Numerous stories with a level of this stupidity are few and far between as a whole. And I'm perplexed as to your statement which implies criminals don't even think in equivalence to the level animals do, who died and made you a societal expert/analyst~?? Malorie-Publish names and pictures of criminals who haven't even been prosecuted yet, yeah, great idea...I'm sure no legalities would pertain. I knew the victim as well as both the conspiring criminals and they are all gone, sadly they all knew one another. The so called "criminals," are going to obviously do time so there is no need for you to worry. I'm sorry you live on a block in Ypsi and are so scared as to what is out there or might happen. A word from the wise, Ypsi is a shit-hole in comparison to many surrounding areas. Maybe you were unknowing upon moving in but the crime rate in Ypsi has always been and will be in the immediate future, high. Maybe you should consider moving/transferring? Will- More info on the perps? What more could you want? What more do you need to know other then the fact that they've been apprehended, you live within a state which is obligated to take care of such matters. How about you concentrate all your focus and efforts into analyzing more insightful matters such as discovering the meaning of life; leave ypsi and it's crime rates to professionals, Ypsi has clearly been indifferent to its crime rate for years but I'm appreciative of the new perspective you've graced us with. I always fully appreciate one who's mastered the obvious.

Don't like Ypsilanti? Find a place in A2 that's crime free. Try this out: umichcrime.org.

@ malorie, I agree with you 100%. I live in the same area and would really like to have more info and pictures on some of these perps. It feels like ypsi is getting worse and worse every day.

Glad to see the "criminal" student is putting his lateral thinking learned in school to good use.

I wish pictures or at least names were published more with the crime stories when they are available. I live on the block this happened (and the same area as many recent robberies) and would like all the information I can get to keep a better look out for myself.

I had a suspicion that there was more to this story than met the eye.

This is why criminals are criminals. LAZY Even most animals know not to poop where they sleep or eat. As we can see from the myriad of stories like this, criminals tend to do the opposite. But there I go blaming the criminals for their poor choices again. I'm sorry it's not their fault, the economy, their circumstances, their upbringing, etc etc etc. Wonder how one man with many of the same "problems" ended up as the President?
