University of Michigan Health System's CEO to discuss role health care plays on local economy

Dr. Ora Pescovitz, the CEO of the University of Michigan Health System, will be speaking at an Ann Arbor event in February.

University of Michigan Health System CEO Ora Pescovitz will talk about the role health care is playing in the local economy at a business breakfast next month.

The event, which will be held Feb. 4, will focus on how the health care industry has become an economic driver locally. Roger Newton, chief executive officer of EsperionKathleen Griffiths, president and CEO of Chelsea Community HospitalJean Chenoweth and Doug Schneider, executives with Thompson Reuters; and Mark Sutter and Dick Sarns of 3M Terumo will also discuss the local health care industry in a panel discussion at the event.

The event, which will include a breakfast and networking time, will run from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Four Points by Sheraton. The cost is $20, and advance registration is required. For more information, e-mail Pam Jones-Sexton at pjsexton@ubat.com.

Packard Health continues to grow

Packard Health is continuing to grow its new office on Ann Arbor’s west side with the addition of a new family medicine physician to its roster at Packard Health West.

Eileen Kuet completed her residency in the Family Medicine program at Oakwood Hospital and received her master’s degree in public health from the University of Michigan. She’s previously practiced medicine in Hartland.

Learn tips for eating healthy on a budget

Looking to make better choices in your diet, but don't have a lot of extra cash to do it? On Jan. 27, MSU Extension Food and Nutrition Program will be discussing healthy eating for both those on a budget and those who don't have a ton of time to cook.

The event will be held at 7 p.m. at the Ypsilanti District Library, 5577 Whittaker Road, and will include a food demonstration, samples, free recipes, food suggestions and nutrition advice.

Evangelical Homes of Michigan Donates Influenza Vaccine to Area Clinics

Evangelical Homes of Michigan, based in Saline, donated 750 doses of flu vaccine to local organizations to distribute to Washtenaw County residents who might not otherwise receive them, the organization announced Thursday. The annual program donated an additional 250 doses of vaccine to Hope Clinic in Ypsilanti, the Robert J. Delonis Center in Ann Arbor and Packard Health.
