University of Michigan partnership in running for $10,000 prize

By Erica Hobbs

The partnership of the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy and the Hope Medical Clinic in Ypsilanti is one of three finalists in the running for Michigan’s 2010 Carter Partnership Award.

The honor, which includes a $10,000 prize, is given to an outstanding partnership between a Michigan Campus Compact college or university and a community group.

The MCC organizes the award as part of its mission to promote community service and civic engagement through collaborations between colleges and universities and community organizations.

The U-M College of Pharmacy assists the Home Medical Clinic in providing free medical care for uninsured children and adults by encouraging students to volunteer their time and medical knowledge.

Volunteers assist with training, program development and day-to-day medication program support.

The U-M College of Pharmacy and Hope Medical Clinic are competing against partnerships at Michigan State University and Grand Valley State University.

Results will be announced Feb. 9 during the Service-Learning and Community Service Awards Ceremony and Dinner in Acme, Mich.
