University of Michigan police investigate fondling incident

A University of Michigan student said a stranger grabbed her buttocks at the Michigan Union as she was studying early this morning, campus police said.
The incident occurred about 12:30 a.m. in a first-floor study area.
The man was sitting next to her when he fondled her, police said. The man was described as black, 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with a medium build, facial stubble and hair a half-inch in length. He was wearing a green polo shirt and dark jacket.

There is no excuse for conduct such as this, regardless of the time it occurred. That woman has the right to have her personal space protected and no unwanted contact should be dismissed as typical or predictable. The safety of our campus is an issue that should be taken seriously, especially at late hours when there are fewer people around who can help in compromising situations.
