The new University of Michigan children's and women's hospital is expected to open in November 2011.

The Ann Arbor hospital scored high ratings for its heart and heart surgery program's patient volume, efforts to curb infections, its congenital heart program, its advanced clinical services, its patient and family services, and its availability of pediatric specialists.

U-M is nationally ranked in eight of 10 pediatric specialty areas featured in the report, including ranking 13th for orthopedics, 19th for kidney care and 22nd for both pulmonology and neonatology care.

According to a release, the honor builds momentum for the new 1.1 million square foot children's and women's hospital set to open in 2011.

“We are excited to be recognized as among the best in the nation by our peers,” Patricia Warner, executive director of C.S. Mott Children’s and Von Voigtlander Women’s Hospitals, said in a release. “These top rankings in a variety of specialties illustrate the strength, skill, and exemplary care our faculty and staff provide to patients and families from Michigan and across the country.”
