U-M student arrested for allegedly kicking another student in the head during fight over a girl

By Kyle Feldscher

A University of Michigan student was arrested and arraigned on assault charges Monday for allegedly kicking another university student in the head during a fight about a girl earlier this month.

Sangchul Lee, who is listed as an undergraduate engineering student at U-M, was charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and aggravated assault for an Aug. 3 fight, when police say he kicked the student, whom he knew, in his head during a dispute.

The man drove himself to the emergency room at the University of Michigan Hospital. Police responded to the hospital and were not called to the scene. U-M Department of Public Safety spokesperson Diane Brown said that may have played a factor in the delay in arresting Lee.

Lee posted $500 of his $5,000 bail after he was arraigned at the Washtenaw County Jail Monday. He had to leave his passport with jail authorities as collateral, Brown said.

Lee will have a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. Sept. 14.

Fighting, kicking, assult, over a girl or woman? (pure VIOLENCE) If ever 2 men fought over me, I would be rid of both. It is a lose/lose situation in my book.

Sounds like the level of logical debate has really gone up at Michigan! NOT

Right on smokeblwr! For all we know, this incident could have happened in Dearborn, or Flint! I am sure that Kyle doesn't mean anything, with the lack of location; but it is interesting ,that ann arbor is never mentioned in these stories.

You still refer to a grown woman as a girlfriend, so they were fighting over friend who is a girl, or a woman that one of them, if not both, wanted as their girlfriend.

1 - I have to agree with comment " just read the article & move on". We have English majors picking on every little thing, those who want more facts whether avaiable at the time of the article or not, and those who ave forgotten that maturation is a very un-even process. 2 - Again we don't know who said what about whom as the participants didn't submit to interviews. They are saving that for the reality shows. Nothing like comments about a third-party to raise ones ire to the point of violence which might have been the case here. 3 - Obviously the whole thing is a Head Case.

In regard to the language used in the article, I think it's right and proper to expect A2.com to adhere to basic journalistic standards. That said, in reference to the word, "girl," it's very possible that was the word used by either the victim or the accused.

"Not," not "no," of course, Wish there were an editing or preview feature.

"We have English majors picking on every little thing..." Are you suggesting that annarbor.com readers do no deserve high journalistic standards?

I would love for us to one day read an article and not pick it apart. Who cares where the guy is from...out of town or a townie? Who cares what words was used to describe the female in the article? And of course, let's not forget passing judgement on the ENTIRE student body based on one persons actions...LMBO!! My goodness...just read the flippin article and keep it moving people.

They just can't "keep it moving"! "Must... Express... Opinion... To... Advocate... Beliefs... Regarding... _______... Over... And over... And over... And....... "

I can't let it go. For most of us here on AA.com this is all we have.

Were they fighting over custody of a prepubescent child? If the dispute was romantic in nature, don't you think "woman" would be a less condescending term for the person in question?

I will start the standard AA.com crime discussion: 1) Why is this article not mentioning Ann Arbor as the scene of the crime. If this was EMU they would say YPSI!!! 2) Another violent crime committed in AA by somebody from....OUT OF TOWN!!! 3) If only UM didn't ban guns on campus, this whole situation could have been handled differently.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not with this post. 1. UM is in Ann Arbor and I'm pretty sure everybody knows that so why does it really need to be specified. 2. How do you know that student is from out of town? Because he has a passport and an Asian name? Wow.

when are college students going to realize that they are "grown ups" now and need to handle their differences in an adult-like manner...not like a toddler kicking and throwing a fit. of course they will never learn this as long as many other adults continue to encourage immaturity themselves.
