U.S. Census Bureau challenges some Pittsfield Township addresses

By Art Aisner

Pittsfield Township Clerk Alan Israel said the U.S. Census Bureau recently challenged the validity of more than 2,400 addresses in preparation for this year’s crucial population tally.

He said township staff researched all the addresses and determined most were valid, newly constructed homes.

More than 500 addresses scheduled to be deleted by the Census Bureau will be appealed, and 34 addresses not included in their initial report are now being added.

The census figures are used to help determine revenue sharing funds and government representation. The township has already received more than $7 million of the more than $21 million it billed in property taxes late last year, Treasurer Patricia Scribner said.

And many residents are taking advantage of a new system allowing them to pay their taxes directly from their banks. Scribner said 77 residents paid their property taxes directly through their accounts with Bank of Ann Arbor, and another 29 did so via TCF Bank under a new system implemented for this tax season.

With news so hard to get out there I guess you have to squeeze it in where ever you can! I know I was sure waiting to hear how people pay their taxes! I would rather know what percentage of homeowners have paid their taxes by any means.

And how does the processes some property owners use to pay their taxes have to do with a US Census Bureau challenge?
