Background checks will tell a person's driving record when it comes to renewal. Stupid is as stupid does and if an individual is constantly getting pulled over for speeding, sliding stops, and fender benders it shows a complete lack of regard for driving laws.... or stupidity.

Well clipping a bumper and clipping a person is completely different. Considering MI is a no fault state and we pretty much have to pay our own deductibles anyway a clip to a bumper really is not worth the hassle of stopping. However I must state again this is about a 2 plus ton vehicle and irresponsible drivers...;)

The driver may have not known what happened If the victim only hurt a knee and refused treatment then it probbaly not that servere.I got cliped in my rear bumper (accually very close to there) by a old man and I don't think he realized it.I did'nt do anything about it figuring he was old and i'd just let him be.( by the way I know your postion on guns and I agree 100% with you )

I said nothing about guns, but background checks can't tell stupid? Hmmm....I can think of several "poor choices" both civil and criminal that should show up in a background check and should disqualify one from driving. But I agree that it won't catch all stupid. In any case, I'd have to say hitting someone with a 2 plus ton weapon and then leaving the scene constitutes assault with a deadly weapon and fleeing the scene indicates knowledge of guilt. Should this person be caught, his/her driving priviledges should be restricted forever.

Once again, the automobile proces to be the mosst misused and deadly weapon in the hands of private citizens. When are we going to stop the violence by demanding more stringent background checks and ownership laws! Really how many more stories like this and the recent drunk driving tradjedies in our are do we have to read before something is done?
