Car stolen from Dexter Township residence recovered by owner soon after

By Heather Lockwood

A Dexter Township couple, who told officials they had parked their car in their driveway about 9 Sunday night and discovered it had been stolen this morning, found the vehicle parked not far from their home soon after, with the keys on the ground nearby, Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office spokesman Derrick Jackson said.

Jackson said the 2007 Chrysler Sebring was reported stolen from the 9300 block of Dexter-Pinckney Road about 7:30 a.m. and was recovered by the owner, a 26-year-old woman, and her husband this morning.

Jackson said the vehicle was found near a Ruhlig's Produce farm stand on Dexter-Pinckney Road. Jackson didn't know the exact location of the farm stand, but the company's website says it's located at 9573 Dexter-Pinckney Road.

Jackson said the vehicle had been left unlocked with keys inside when it was stolen. He said the vehicle was not damaged but had apparently been rummaged through by the thief or thieves, though nothing appeared to have been stolen from inside.

There is no suspect information at this time and no further details were immediately available.

Shame, shame, shame ..... 30 years ago we didn't even have to lock our doors .... now you have to lock your car in your own driveway and while I'm venting ....it really makes me angry to see spray paint destruction (so called graffiti) on the bridges too!

Ruhlig's Farm Market is at 11546 Island Lake Rd and is not on Dexter-Pinckney Rd. There is a boat storage place near (but not at) 9573 Dexter-Pinckney.

I'm guessing this is a lesson learned by the victim. Lock it up!

If someone leaves the car unlocked with the keys in it, they probobly want it stolen.

Not neccessarily! Out in that area, lots of people do. Very low crime, bigger lots/property. Its very common to leave your keys in the car, I do and yet my car is in the garage!
