Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies arrest 2 suspected burglars inside Ypsilanti Township home

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Two intruders were caught inside a home in the Paint Creek subdivision in southern Ypsilanti Township this afternoon, the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department reported.

Deputies were called after a resident reported seeing two people crawl through a bathroom window of a neighbor's house, police said.

Sheriff's deputies and Michigan State Police troopers arrived and surrounded the house.

Police said the two individuals refused to exit the house, so officers entered an arrested them. The suspects are currently in the Washtenaw County Jail pending charges.

In an e-mail to township residents, sheriff's Lt. Jim Anuszkiewicz commended the neighbor who called and said police continue to make progress solving and curbing burglaries in the township. He encouraged residents to continue to call 911 to report all crimes and suspicious situations.

It was my home. I could not be more grateful to my neighbors and to the Washtenaw Co Sheriffs Dept and the Michigan State Police. The first cruiser arrived in 1 minute 30 seconds. He heard it over the radio, was close by, and was there before the teletype went out to all units. In all, according to neighbors, 9 units responded, and surrounded my home. Fortunately no one was home, but the Police did not know that at the time. It could have saved our lives.
