Washtenaw County sheriff's deputies investigate home invasion in Lodi Township

By AnnArbor.com Staff

A burglar or burglars broke into a Lodi Township home Sunday morning while the residents were sleeping and stole numerous items, the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department reported.

The break-in occurred sometime between midnight and 9 a.m. in the 7000 block of Dell Road.

Police say someone entered the home through an unlocked side door. The family was sleeping and didn't hear anything, reports said.

The case is still under investigation, and no suspects have been identified, police said.

Locking your door is always better than not locking it. Especially if you are home, no matter how sufficient the screws are or are not. Most burglars would prefer not to awaken the residents by breaking the lock.

Locking your door is more effective IF the door, lockset, strikeplate and screws are sufficient to your security. Otherwise a locked door is only as secure as it's weakest link (i.e. not at all).
