Ms. Nash and Ms. Murray: it would be helpful if the AnnArbor.com writers would be consistent in their use of the terms "home invasion," "burglary," and "robbery." Readers want to know the level of danger of the crimes that are being reported. Personally, when I read "home invasion" I perceive that the person is at home when intruders entered the dwelling and that the situation is VERY DANGEROUS. When I read "burglary" I perceive that there was a theft without persons present, and that the situation was less dangerous because there was no risk of confrontation. When I read "robbery" I perceive that there was a theft and some sort of force was used. I'm no lawyer, so saying first or second degree this or that won't be helpful unless it is explained in layman's terms within the article. Thanks.

A home invasion is while your in bed or watching tv they'll bust in a probably confront you with a weapon and then rip you off while your present. In many cases victims are beaten or killed so you cannot identify who the perpetrators are. In other words they invaded your property with you being there.

Is there a technical difference between "burglary" "break in" and say, "home invasion"? Or do they amount to the same thing? How many of these folks have answering machines that say "We can't come to the phone right now" or "We're not home now..." or other hints that it might be safe to burgle, break-in or invade their homes? And what happens to all those tv's?

There seems to ba some sort of pattern of these kinds of thefts. I suspect there is an organized crime ring in the area. I've been reading stories sinceJuly about laptops, TV's, and game systems being the only thing taken along with cash in some cases. I have a device in my apartment that will text me when armed. If it ever goes off, I have the sheriff's number programed so I can immediately notify them to go there from anywhere I may be. This would be the quickest way to get them there instead of a 30 or more second delay going thru a silent alarm company. This may be the difference in the perps getting caught or getting away. If a thief were to spot this and try to disarm it it would already be to late. It will pick up the movement before he or she could even reach it. it also saves me the monthly monitoring fee an alarm company charges. a simple rig from a call phone that I put together myself. It work's very well. I have tested it many times. These people are going in grabbing game systems, TV's and laptops and leaving very quickly. i don't think they are going to get to far when i have the police on the phone within 10 seconds of movement being detected.
