Washtenaw County to hold public hearing on improving Sugar Creek Extension Drain

By Erica Hobbs

The Office of the Washtenaw County Water Resources Commissioner is hosting a public hearing next week on improving the Sugar Creek Extension Drain.

The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 11 at the York Township Hall, 11560 Stony Creek Road.

The hearing is in response to a petition by the Washtenaw County Road Commission and will determine whether the drain needs to be improved and how.

Possible changes include cleaning out, relocating, widening, deepening, straightening, tiling, extending or relocating the drain. All residents who own land that may be assessed are encouraged to attend.

A Board of Determination will decide on what to do with the drain based on input from the meeting. The board’s decision may be appealed by the Washtenaw County Circuit Court within 10 days.
