Plymouth Road has reopened, except for the westbound lane nearest to the curb, after an extensive water main break that occurred late Tuesday morning near Plymouth Road and Commonwealth Drive, according to officials with the Ann Arbor Police Department.

Plymouth Road was closed between Commonwealth and Green roads for about an hour, said Ann Arbor Police Lt. Angella Abrams.

Several emergency crews were on the scene.

The location is at the entrance to Plymouth Park business park.

The water was turned off by 11:45 a.m., a police officer on the scene told AnnArbor.com.

The leak appeared to be in front of Flagstar Bank, with the water flowing east past Carson's American Bistro.

An employee who answered the phone at Carson's said the restaurant did not have water at 11:45 a.m. When AnnArbor.com called again at about 4:30 p.m., an employee said water service had been restored.

AnnArbor.com reporter James Dickson contributed to this report.

Got to wonder, do a major job like that but neglect the opportunity to tackle the utilities at the same time.

Drove past the area yesterday, and the giant hole they dug is on Plymouth. It's very deep, so one would expect that the break had nothing to do with the cold. Interesting how it's within a block of the prior hole that was dug in the brand new surface of Plymouth Rd to find a leak. One has to wonder if the repaving of Plymouth Rd caused damage that is only now becoming obvious?

Still fixing the leak. Big hole in the newly paved road (go figure). Lanes open each way.

These crews really earn their wages every day. If you haven't done it, it's easy to criticize inferring they only earn it when dealing with an emergency.

Indeed, bitter cold and water are not a comfortable mix.

It's at times like this that these crews really earn their money. Thanks to them!
